Should've found him by now, he thought, wondering where the rat was, and if Asar-Suti had even received that note.

A rustle at his feet a half hour later brought back the confirmation. And he was relieved as he offered the rat a cookie and sent it on its way. Time was of the essence; it could not be wasted.

Checking that everything he intends to bring with him in place [an activity that gives him something to do since it's really unnecessary to do so], he heads outside.

With a bird book in his hand.

He'll just open it up to a random page and hope that it'll be something he won't mind becoming.

If he can help it he'd like to not become a vulture today.

"Bird-forms, eh?" Asar-Suti said, coming out of the bar proper, a huge wine glass nearly full of something purple in his hand. "What's the hurry?"

"Like your brother already did," Asar-Suti said. "Well, I just hope you come back all right, and he doesn't come back at all. You think bird-shape will help, right? What kind of bird?"

"Don't be a sparrow - too little," Asar-Suti said, sighing. "Or an albatros. Being a vulture might have its disadvantages, too, same with swans."

"Of course I've got bird experience," Asar-Suti said, spontaneously turning into a penguin. "I once managed to escape the hunter of the Valar and his hounds by spontaneously turning into a hawk. I had been a mountain cat at the time, and they were all after me."

"Yes, we can do that," Asar-Suti said, changing back.

"Then I will change you," Asar-Suti said. "Remember this transformation well, as before!"

He took the book off Rabastan, looked at the swallow, a drew a smoky rune in the air, long and wiggly.

Not surprisingly, Rabastan turned into a swallow.

Asar-Suti changed into a raven, and followed Rabastan up into the sky.

You're doing this well, he observed. Finally, a body that worked naturally for the one who shifted into it, as it ought to be.

Oh yes - suddenly, everything was easy and natural?

Follow me, quoth said the raven, and flew off.

Come along, little thing, the raven laughed, croaking, as he flew along.

Just follow me, bird-brain! the raven laughed.
